Adoption Process & Application

Hello potential adopter! Please make sure that you are ready mentally, physically and emotionally to adopt a dog. We know that these are all cute dogs, but please do not act on impulse. It takes a lot of time for us to go through applications, and we would appreciate that all applicants have taken time to think about this lifetime commitment. Thank you!

Caring Hearts For Canines requires a completed and approved adoption application before meeting any of our dogs.

Step 1: The Application

  • If you are interested in a specific dog, please fill out our application and indicate the name of the dog that you are interested in adopting.
If you do not have a specific dog in mind, but would like to send in an application to have on file, there is an option to choose "Application on File." Once the application is submitted, please watch our social media to be alerted to what dogs we have available. When you see a dog you are interested in, please email us and we will check availability, and we can proceed from there.

  • Please allow 2 full weeks for a response from Caring Hearts for Canines.

  • Caring Hearts For Canines does not have open hours to the public for walk-in meet and greets with dogs. We are by appointment once an application has been discussed with a CHFC representative.
Email is our primary source of communication.
    Email: caringheartscanine@gmail.com

Step 2: Virtual Home Visit

  • Once the application has been reviewed, and we have no further questions, a virtual home visit will follow.

  • We will be in contact to schedule the virtual home visit. We use Facetime or Google Meet to video.

Step 3: Meet & Greet

  • Once the application and virtual home visit has been completed and approval status is granted, a meet and greet will be set up between the potential adopter and the dog.

Step 3: Adoption Fee

  • Upon the completion of the application, virtual home visit, meet and greet and the adoption has been confirmed, the Adoption Fee must be paid and any necessary waivers completed. Payment can be made online at a link that will be provided, check or cash.

  • The adoption fee is $200 for adult dogs and $250 for puppies. Adoption fees are not tax deductible.

For all puppy adoptions it is required that adopters send the proof of spay/neuter to caringheartscanine@gmail.com once the procedure has been done. We will follow up, and require the vet record.

Caring Hearts for Canines reserves the right to disprove any adopter at any point in the process if CHFC sees fit.

  • Please remember that Caring Hearts for Canines is a volunteer based organization. If you become inpatient with our response time or that you were not chosen for the dog you had wanted, your application will be disapproved. We are all trying to save these dogs, and while we understand waiting and not knowing where we are in the process can be frustrating, we will not tolerate rude behavior. Believe us, we want a smooth and speedy process as well! However, there are times that is not the case, so we ask for patience, compassion and tolerance.
  • Before you apply, please make sure that your pets are current on Rabies, and have been to their annual wellness check.
If your pets are not current on rabies, we will not approve the application.
If the Bordetella and DHPP vaccine has expired, please explain if there is a medical reason.
  • Please make sure all past and current pets are listed in the pet list section of the application, and that all questions are answered.
  • If you have intact dogs that are of age to be spayed/neutered and there is no medical reason why that procedure has not been done, there is a good chance your application will not be approved. Having intact pets can lead to more unwanted puppies, even if that was not the desired outcome. We strongly believe that spaying/neutering can help alleviate the constantly overflowing shelters. If there is a medical reason why the procedure has not been done, please explain on the application.
  • If you are applying to adopt, please make sure that EVERYONE in the household is in agreement with adoption of a canine family member. If you are applying to adopt a puppy, please make sure you are ready for the time it takes to raise a puppy into a well-mannered canine family member. Time and patience is key!

Adoption Application

Please complete all answers on the application.
If you do not have a dog in mind, please put "APPLICATION ON FILE."
Do not put a dog you are not interested in just to put a name, we will not do the home visit unless it is for the dog named on the application.
